The very first thing you need to do is decide what part of your PC, server or network you want to manage. Then you need to collect your first set of space data. After that you can update your data at any time - but you can keep re-using the space data you have collected instantly, without having to wait.

When you first start the SPACEWatch Client click on "Get new storage data" on the welcome page. Choose "Quick scan of local drives" or "Administrator".

Quick scan will let you manage storage on all of your local PC or server disks (this is the PC or server that SPACEWatch is installed on). Administrator will let you choose any areas of your network, whether or not you have SPACEWatch installed on them (only available on certain Editions).
